The Original Owners & Developers
The Blake Family of Southport, North Carolina, originally owned the Cades Cove property. The family patriarch, E. C. Blake owned and operated a lumberyard and building supply store in the town for more than 50 years. E.C. was a hard worker and insisted that the family participate in the business responsibilities. As a result of the success of that business, the family consisting of Mr. Blake’s widow Gertrude Blake, and their four sons, Charles, Tom, Bill and Ben, jointly and independently acquired several parcels of land in and around the Southport area, including Cades Cove.
Gertrude Blake was the glue and inspiration behind the development of Cades Cove. Gertrude’s participation in the development was essential in the formative plans for the neighborhood. She provided wisdom and guidance to the development until her passing in November 2004.
The Cades Cove Homeowners’ Association, Inc. was formed in 2006. Charles and Tom Blake, who also owned a construction company (DBA Blake Homebuilders, NC, Inc.), began the actual development of Cades Cove in 2007.
Development was completed by The Cottage Building Company of Leland, NC in late 2015.
